Makhan Chor Sushobhan Thali celebrates one of the most beloved childhood pastimes of Shri Krishna the playful stealing of butter in the homes of Vraja. The Śrīmad Bhāgavatam describes Krishna becoming upset after being interrupted while drinking his mother’s milk, breaking a yogurt pot and then going into another room to eat freshly churned butter. He is also described sitting upon a wooden mortar, taking butter from a hanging pot and distributing it to the monkeys.
