Krishna–Sudama Sushobhan Thali celebrates one of the most touching stories of friendship in Krishna’s life the reunion between Krishna and his childhood friend Sudama. The Śrīmad Bhāgavatam describes Sudama as Krishna’s old friend from the time they had studied together under their spiritual teacher, Sāndīpani Muni. Years later, Sudama, living in poverty, travelled to Dwaraka to meet Krishna.
When Krishna saw Sudama approaching, he immediately rose to welcome him and embraced him with great affection. Krishna then seated his friend with honour and personally washed his feet, worshipping him with sandalwood, incense and lamps. The Bhāgavatam presents this as an extraordinary expression of Krishna’s affection and respect for his friend, regardless of Sudama’s poverty or social circumstances.
